Man, today they had Clendon Ross from - man, that guy
had some interesting insight into things from this year and last year.
The two things I really found interesting were:
Jamaal Charles - The Ross seemed to really be high on JC this year.
He focused on two things - first, his focus on football this year,
talking about how JC got into football shape and didn't run track.
And second, he talked about how he is for sure the man this year and
that last year, he (Ross) felt that JC thought he should have been the
#1 guy and when he wasn't he pouted some and let it affect his
on-field performance. With Selvin gone, there really is no "other"
guy, Ogbonnaya certainly isn't it. So Charles will get most of the
touches, and should keep his head in the game.
Defense - Namely Chizik was the focus of his ire (last year) or good
feelings (this year). First he focused on Chizik now at ISU. Dan
McCarney "resigned" at ISU the week after we blew out oSu. And then
all of a sudden we play our worst defensive game of the season?
Basically, Ross accused him of mailing it in after that, hence, why he
took the job right after we were eliminated from the Big XII race.
At the same time, he pointed out that after we won the Rose Bowl in
2006, Chizik was one of the hottest coaches out there, but he stayed
at Texas. And then a year later he takes the ... ISU job? What was
up w/ that? Maybe he didn't have a good feeling for Texas? Or maybe
he was having some personality conflicts with other coaches
stuff.
All in all, Ross felt that this year Texas has a much fresher outlook
on things and should perform well on the field. Now, if it will work
out, not sure. But it is a new year and hope springs eternal.
