The benchmarks were established by the . gov't, via George W.
Bush. The gov't set those goals as the intended result of the surge,
the reason for doing it (the surge). "If you approve this surge,
these things will happen," is in effect what they said.
Virtually none of them have happened. The only thing that has
happened is, street violence is down in areas where there are more
troops. Gee, there's a shock.
59 . soldiers have been killed in Iraq in 2008. That's more than
one per day. Nice success you got there, bub.
That's 59 too many. Iraq isn't doing what they said they would do.
You neoconfucks are supposed to be all about accountability, why
isn't it OK to want to hold the Iraqis accountable for their failure
to hold up their end?
