Really? We are back to floundering, sitting in 4th place and looking
like a .500 mark in conference would be a good thing? Lets look back
at the Jan 31 Standings (or near there)
1. K-State 5-0
2. Kansas 5-1
3. Baylor 4-1
4. UT 3-2
4. OU 3-2
6. ISU 3-3
6. A&M 3-3
8. Tech 2-3
9. MU 2-4
10. NU 1-4
11. OSU 1-5
11. CU 1-5
We had just got blown out by A&M, and faced the prospects of losing
games to both Baylor and OU in the next two games (along with the
pending game with KU 4 games out).
Come on, it was ONE LOSS!!! To a Tech team that was fired up.
Granted, I don't think we played particularly well. But look where we
sit, we are in the same position we were just 1 week before the loss,
tied for 1st.
I am not calling this a quality loss, but it might have been just the
thing this team needs. Sure, we have played well the last few weeks,
but I get the sense from this team that they "forget" the importance
of solid all around play. This serves as that reminder, and hopefully
returns the focus for when it really matters - MARCH (now). The team
has two home games remaining, baring a major collapse, we take them
and still win the conference, and still have the top seed in the Big
12 Tournament.
Overall, let Barnes whip these guys back into shape, and let's see if
we can do what we haven't done, win the Conference Tourney. Besides,
we know that is what the smart schools value over the regular season
title. If we win out, including take the tourney title, I don't see
why we are not at least in the discussion for a #1 seed again. And
with a renewed focus, I think a deep tourney run is not out of the
question.
